I have a feeling this is an easy one but I'm having difficulty tracking the problem down. My check engine light is intermittently coming on. It usually turns on when I'm idling at stoplights at which point it feels like it's misfiring. Sure enough, I get a code 73 and 74 which is random misfire on cylinders 3 & 4. When I'm not at idle the car runs perfect. Since I've had the problem, I've replaced the plugs and wires and ran fuel injector cleaner through the system. I've been told it could be an idle control valve. Just wanted to see if anyone out there has had the same experience and what they did to fix it. Thanks!
Sounds like a misfiring engine to me. Could be annything from fuel injector, fuel injector curcuit, ignition system, low compression, or valve clearance issues.
If you set your idle too low... that could cause a misfire.
First check out your injectors. Try listening to the injector (for a click) when the car is on, the ecm should give you a code which will indicate which is misfireing so you can check that one first. _________________ If you feel like you're in control, you're not going fast enough. - Mario Andretti
