Post subject: Which Pads and Rotors for a 2000 Integra ??
Hi.
I have a 2000 Integra with 107k. I was road tripping all
around the US last year when one of my brakes started
sticking and it was making a grinding noise so I stopped
at a brake shop (which was out of state) and they said
the front and rear brakes were worn out and all my rotors
needed to be turned. The car was at 82k so I figured ok,
I need new brakes and with all the travel I'm doing I want
a safe car...
Now 6 months later I have that grinding noise again and
I figured out that it's in my rear brakes because using
the E-Brake envokes the grinding noise. Only now
I have severe pulsation too not just the noise.. I fear I have
a "sticking" caliper..
1) How can I determine this for sure once I get the wheels off?
Should I buy a re-manufactured caliper and swap it out just
to be sure ? I see them for about $112 each at Shucks Auto.
Ok, now I'm home and want to fix everything for good. Once
I figure out the status of the caliper, I want to put on new
rear brake pads and new rear rotors. I don't want to take
the rotors in to be turned, since they were already turned
once and I really don't trust them now. I'd rather put in all new
parts and rest asured that I beat this problem for good. So..
2) What brand/model of brake pads work really well that I
can buy at a local "Shucks", "Pepboys", "Autozone", or "NAPA"
store? I see many models ranging from $30 a set to $80 a set.
I want to spend just enough to get pads that are just as good or slightly
better than the original ones that came with the car when new.
3) What brand/model of brake rotors work really well that I
can buy at a "Shucks", "Pepboys", "Autozone", or "NAPA"
store locally? I see many models ranging from $25 each
to $90 each. Again, I want to spend just enough to get Rotors that
are just as good or slightly better than the original ones that
came with the car when new.
Thanks a bunch...
Tom

Hi Tom,
Are you going to do the work yourself? Also how are your fronts brakes, are they still good? Do you plan on replacing those as well?
It sounds to me like your e-brake may need adjusting. I doubt you would need to replace the caliper itself after only 100k.
I hear good things about axxis pads, but they are more race spec than anything and tend to be somewhat corosive on standard rotors. Personally if i'm not going to go all out I will usually try to stick with OEM parts.
