Acura News: Acura TL Names Best Performing
Acura News The 2004 Acura TL was rated the top upscale sedan by a leading source for information on consumer products and services. The redesigned TL topped the BMW 330i, the Lexus ES330, the SAAB 9-5, and the Volvo S60 in a series of tests including acceleration, braking and safety, measuring overall driving experience. The BMW 330i had maintained the top spot for the past three years.

"It is an honor for the TL to be named as the top in its class against such solid competition," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president, sales. "This accomplishment demonstrates the exciting direction in which Acura is headed with its focus on performance, technology and style."

The all-new 2004 TL debuted in October and continues to set monthly sales records. Powered by a 270 horsepower V-6, the TL features track tuned suspension, sporty new styling, and an assortment of the latest technology, as standard equipment, including DVD-Audio surround sound and Bluetooth wireless phone connectivity.

Acura News: All 2004 Honda and Acura Light Trucks Comply with New Crash Compatibility Guidel
Acura News American Honda Motor Co., Inc. today announced that it has joined in an industry-wide program to improve vehicle-to-vehicle crash compatibility by designing all future Honda and Acura vehicles to meet or exceed new criteria set forth by the industry's Enhanced Vehicle-to-Vehicle Compatibility Working Group. For Frontal-to-Frontal crash compatibility, Honda has already undertaken the task of improving the compatibility of its own fleet through years of research, development and application of advanced safety designs. Accordingly, all 2004 model Honda and Acura light trucks sold in North America already comply with the Phase 1 industry Frontal-to-Frontal compatibility guidelines.

"Honda believes that one of the most important strategies to achieving greater safety is to improve the compatibility of all vehicles, large and small," said Tom Elliott, executive vice president of American Honda. "We are pleased that this important safety program focusing on compatibility has gained industry-wide participation."

Acura News

Car and Driver Magazine's January 2004 issue named the Honda Accord, S2000 and Acura TSX as winners of its prestigious and highly competitive annual "10Best Cars" award. Nearly 60 vehicles were nominated for the 2004 award, with Honda and Acura vehicles named as three of the ten final selections.

Suspension: Information: Alignment Basic Terms
Suspension I am planning on writing several informative articles on Suspension in the near future, so I thought I would start of with a nice little glossary of Suspension terms that you may find useful.

Ackerman Steering - It is simple really the greater the radius the greater the circumference of an a circle. You may be asking yourself what does that have to with steering and cornering. Well, when going around a corner/arc you are simply traveling the circumference of some circle. Since the outside wheel is further from the center it must travel a greater distance, and the inside wheel of the steered axle must travel a tighter arc than the outside. If both wheels turned the same amount as with a straight axel both wheels would effectively be following different curves around the same corner which would result in a significant reduction in grip. The concept behind Ackerman steering allows the inside wheel to turn on a tighter arc than the outside wheel.

Acura News: Honda Factory Performance,(TM) Acura A-SPEC(TM) Vehicles T
Acura News Honda unveiled the high performance kits for the Civic Si and Acura TL at the 2003 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) trade show in Las Vegas on Tuesday 11/04/03. The Acura A-SPEC package for the TL performance luxury sedan debuts in November while the Honda Factory Performance (HFP) kit for the Civic Si goes on sale in December. "The vehicles we have on display at SEMA not only confirm Honda's and Acura's present commitment to the performance aftermarket, they also give a good indication of how important we expect this market to be to us in the future," said Jim Roach, American Honda vice president of the Parts Division. "Participating in SEMA is extremely important for American Honda because it lets us reach out to this influential group of customers at one of the most important trade shows of the year."

Acura News: Acura Factory Performance' Renamed A-SPEC(TM)
Acura News Acura is re-launching its Acura Factory Performance program as Acura A-SPEC, the company announced on 11/4/03 at SEMA. When launching the program at last year's SEMA show with the announcement of a performance kit for the Acura RSX Type-S, Acura called the program Acura Factory Performance. The name change was made to brand Acura's program and differentiate it from Honda Factory Performance, a similar program for Honda vehicles.

"A-SPEC stands for the highest level of quality and engineering, and more accurately reflects the standard we're striving for with our high performance accessory package program," said Jim Roach, American Honda vice president of the Parts Division.
