I just bought my 2000 LS this past Dec. Recently the check engine light came on. I took to the local Auto Zone so that they could read the code. It came up as P1457, Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) Control System Leakage (EVAP Canister System). The guy at Auto Zone said I needed a new gas cap. After buying the cap, and reseting the code, I was off on my way. A day later the light came back on, and shows the same code. After checking the fuel lines, they checked out fine, I think it may be the Canister itself. My question to all is where is the canister located, and is it easy enought to change myself, or should I get it done professionally. Any help that anyone can give will be much appreciated.
There are a number of other possible causes for you to get that MIL light: fuel tank pressure sensor, EVAP bypass solenoid valve, vacuum connections, throttle body...There are bunch of test that should be done to determine exactly what the problem is. Your best bet would be to find someone with a helm manual and go step by step through the troubleshooting flowchart. _________________ If you feel like you're in control, you're not going fast enough. ~ Mario Andretti
OOPs i stand corrected 1456 is tank side 1457 is canister side thenis a CVS canister shunt valve. If you have a OBD2 scan tool that can con continuitous test then see if last drive cycle everything passed (in the honda PGM it hase EVAP tests). It's more than likley a CVS, or poss, a purge solonoid but most likley it's a cvs canisters don't go bad but the solonoids do
I have the same prob on a 99 gs-r, took it to the dealer..p-1457, started with the gas cap, changed that and 3 other parts near the gas tank, then the dealer spent 5 hrs on it , ran a smoke test, and finally concluded that all is well..he just did not know how to fix that,....any suggestions now...
