ok my cars coolant system is officially a piece of crap. right now it is constantly overheating. i just took it to the shop and they said they fixed it, low and behold 2 days later it started overheating again. I dont know wtf is wrong. A few months ago i had the same problem and they auto tech people told me i needed a new radiator cap cus it wasnt holding the pressure. so i got a new one and it worked, until now. right now my radiator is either guzzling coolant or losing it somewhere.
Now i do have one thing to say which might be the cause of this overheating but im not sure. a year or two ago i noticed that the coolant reservoir lid had a crack in it and so i duck taped it. Maybe it the coolant is squeezing out of the crack still and boiling onto the engine parts...could that be the reason? anyways im getting a new reservoir cap tomorrow and going back to the shop to make them fix what they originally didnt fix. but anywho...anyone have any insight what my problem could be? thnx

are u smelling coolant (something of a sweet smell)? Is the coolant flowing through your radiator? It could be a clogged thermostat

lol its definately not a clogged thermostat. last week when i brought it to the shop for them to 'fix' it they also thought it was the thermostat so they replaced it with a new one. so i know its not that.
also ive noticed that there is a humming/squeeking sound coming from the engine somewhere whenever the car is on. right before the steam started coming out from under my hood the sound got louder...

i checked those too. the auto repair people said it was maybe some air bubbles i nthe system...but i dunno if air bubbles would really cause this.
i bought a new coolant reservoir cap and put that on (took the old cracked duck taped one off) and ever since then its been working fine. wiiiiieeerd. then again it could act up soon and maybe it is an intermittent problem...
