I just bought a 1998 acura RL and the radio stopped working after I took out the battery...now i need the code, but the local acura dealer wanted $200 to get that because they said they have to take the cosole out, and the radio and look behind the radio for the code...WTH, i thought all they need is look at the vehicle and the vin number and they should be able to pull up the code? Also i called the 1800 number in torrance CA and they were no help either.. I think it is just a ripoff to charge $200 just because all i need is 5 digit number...Anyone know if this is too much or the dealers actually even charge money to get the number? I looked at in the ashtray too but couldn't find it...ANY HELP? thanks

Open your glove box, look on the side faceing the steering wheel, there should be 2 sets of #'s. the 5 digit # is your radio code

This happened to me when I bought my '02 TL-S used (but "certified") from a dealer. I had netiher the radio code nor the Navi system PIN. The dealer wanted to pull the unit to get the codes (no charge due to warranty, but still a major pain, because the dealer is 2 hours from where I live). I insisted that there must be some way to trace the numbers via the factory, and the dealer said there wasn't, but I kept at it, and they got a "factory service rep" on the phone, and called me back an hour later with the codes.

So obviously it is possible. Now, that was for an '02, a'98 could be different, but I doubt it. Tell them my story, about the factory service rep, and see what you can do. Good luck!
