I would like to know of the cleanest installation of the XM Commander in my 2001 RL. There don't appear to be many options for unobtrusive placement of the controller, but maybe I'm not creative enough. Any ideas?
Depending upon the size of the controller, you or an audio shop may be able to fit it inside the ashtray housing. I installed a second cd changer and was able to remove the ashtray insert (don't smoke so I did not need the ashtray) and mount the display unit in that location. Had to grind the ashtray mounting area a bit, but the display fits nice and is hidden with the ashtray cover. I also was able to keep the cigarette lighter so that cell phones or other 12v items could be plugged in as necessary.
If not in this location, there are not too many other attractive locations for mounting additional accessories.
