Ok, here's the deal:
I have had a '96 integra ls special for about 6-7 months and have already put $2000+ into it in repairs (all brakes/calipers, new gas tank). The gas tank was leaking because of rust, and I recently found that both the main fuel line and brake lines are badly rusted and leaking and need replacing, estimate is $1800. It also needs new "cat shields" (anyone know wtf these are?) as well as an alignment, combined another $200-300.
It seems like the under body rust is so widespread it is affecting everything. I am seriously considering selling it rather than pouring another 2 grand in now and god knows how much more in the future. However, it only has 78k and cost $6500 to start.
A good friend of mine loves restoring old VWs. He always said rust is like cancer... the only real way to get rid of it is to cut it out. Treating cancer will always be expensive... and just like the real kind in humans... it has a habit of coming back at the worst times. I would seriously consider getting rid of it. That the wonderful thing... u can get rid of a car but not a human. _________________ If you feel like you're in control, you're not going fast enough. ~ Mario Andretti
