I own a 94 Legend 4 door. It has a vibration in the drive train under acceleration. I put on a new set of tires and it help the problem greatly but the vibration is still there. It seems to begin around 40 MPH and is worse at 70 MPH. Is this worn CV Joints or what?

Do you hear a clicking noise when you go around corners? If you do then it is probably your CV Joints. But, i'm gonna go on a limb and guess that your cv joints aren't the problem. When you changed tires did u get a wheel balance and alignment? Aside from that I can think of anything that could be causing your problem.

There is no clicking noise anytime. There is no play in the steering or drive train. When I first start up the vibration is hard to detect. After I drive a while the vibration begins and then only under acceleration. There is no pull to right or left when driving down a level road. After purchasing the car I put 10,000 miles on the previous tires with no signs of alignment wear.

Thanks for responding.

Do you have any mechanic friends? The reason i ask is b/c almost everytime i ask them a question its always "I couldn't tell you, i'd have to see it." What you are describing is one of those situations where a test drive and equipment check is necessary to give any kind of usefull advise. I could be wrong, but i could think of a million and 1 things that could be causing that. i'll admit it, you got me stumped.

Good luck with that

I'm stumped too. Thanks for replying. What really gets me is that I drove him this evening (30 Miles) and there was no vibration.

I am having the same problem. I think it is the Universal joints. I wanted to get mine check out but I havent had the time. When i get up to about 75 I feel it and when i accelerate it shakes harder. The only thing is that it dosent happen all the time. I think I am going to have it looked at and if that is the problem I will sure let you know.

Just tagging along as I have the same prob.

Loose and clunky from about 20mph and up, gets worse at highway speeds when warm. Mechanics are having trouble pinning this down. Replaced several "questionable" components (tie-rods ends, ball joints, etc.), but no fix yet. Guess I could always completely rebuild the front end! Confused

This seems to be a common problem as of late on this and other forums...I have the same type of problem and think that I am finally tracking it down...this after the front end is tight after replacing tie-rods, ball joints etc.

I appears that this is being caused by a bad engine mount. The first step of diagnosis was doing a brake stand while stationary (flooring the brake and giving it gas in drive, OBVIOUSLY be careful and don't do it with anything in front of the vehicle!!), and I had a similar shudder. This all but eliminates many components as they aren't moving. The second step was to lift the car on a hoist and do the same thing with all four wheels off the ground...same thing, but this time the car started shaking and rocking back and forth. My mechanic was underneath and says that it is the rear engine mount, I am replacing both rear mounts next week.

Hope this helps!

Since it warmed up there has been no vibration. It is smoothe up tp over 80 mph. I think there must have been ice on one of the moving parts. I am going to keep an eye on the motor mounts though.

I have a 91 Legend with the same problem. We found the problem to be a worn inter CV joint on the right axle. The clicking noise when you go around corners is from the outer CV joint but the inter well cause the vibration. If you can move the axle near the inter CV more than a few MM in a up and down direction than the CV is worn.

I have a 94 GS that has the exact same issue right now. Did anyone discover the root cause of the problem? Was it the motor mounts? Any feedback would be appreciated prior to having to take it to a mechanic. Thanks.
