...okay, I need ]HELP and I need it fast!!! This is long-winded but here goes: I've had a 1999 CL for about a year, didn't realize just how sensitive the automatic doorlock mechanism was. Got out of my car over the weekend, took the key out of the ignition and put it in my purse, left my purse on the seat w/the door barely latched (interior light was on), went to sweep leaves off my driveway, maybe 15 minutes later went back to get my purse and...yep, it was locked up tight. Damn! I cursed my dumb-blondeness to no avail. Had a locksmith come out the next day, who used a slim-jim to open the driver side door. The alarm sounded, so he told me to put my key in the keyhole and lock it, and when I did the alarm stopped. Okay, I think I'm out of the woods, right? Nope.
Left later that day w/no problem and stopped by the gas station. After fueling up I had problems getting the automatic gearshift out of park. Weird, sez I. After a few good yanks I got it out of park and took off. Arrived at my destination, parked it overnight, left the next day w/out coincidence UNTIL I got home -- I COULD NOT TURN IT OFF -- i.e., I could not turn the key while it was in the ignition (towards me) in order to get it out!!! I WAS able to re-start the car, but then the automatic gearshift was stuck! Turned it off again, still couldn't get key out, so now it is sitting in my driveway w/the key in the ignition and the doors unlocked! Does anyone know if the manual unlocking messed up something computer-wise or electronically or whatever and caused these two problems?H-E-L-P!!! Please!!!
As for the running car problem, (burning up gas isn't good) you can remove your back up fuse (7.5A). That will reset your computer, and once removed the car will shut off. The fuse is located in your under hood fusebox near your battery.
Then try to get your car back under control. Remember to press the brake pedal when shifting out of park _________________ If you feel like you're in control, you're not going fast enough. ~ Mario Andretti
Hi AcuraImport, thanks for the quick response, but no, the car isn't running, I was able to shut the engine off but I couldn't remove the key from the ignition, know what I mean? The final click as you turn the switch back towards yourself, does that make sense?
Is your steering wheel locked? If it is just turn the steering wheel a light (so there is a little play) and then you should be able to pull out the key.
Oh yeah... I deleted your other post, so this is under just one thread _________________ If you feel like you're in control, you're not going fast enough. ~ Mario Andretti
It couldn't hurt. If i had to guess i'd say your steering wheel is locked... its the only explaination i've got. _________________ If you feel like you're in control, you're not going fast enough. ~ Mario Andretti
Okay, when I get home I intend to attempt what you suggested, I'm just hoping it's going to be that simple, don't you suppose the car "thinks" was broken into since the locksmith used a slim-jim? GAWD!!! Wish me luck!!!
