I just replaced the radiator. I have a question as to the steps to properly fill the system back up. Is the fill process like most American cars where you fill the system as far as possible with the engine off and then turn on the engine and let it run till the thermostat opens and then top off the level? Or are there different steps to take?

Yes, however after you top off when the thermostat opens you need to open the coolent bleed screw to let the air out of the system. On my 91 integ its located right by the upper radiator hose (a screw with a hole in the top). I believe its a 10mm. open it SLIGHTY (enough to let the coolent start to come out) MAKE SURE YOU DONT TAKE IT ALL THE WAY OUT!!! let coolent flow from the screw til there is nothing but a steady stream (no more spurting), then tightin it down, and top off again. Close the radiator cap and you should be good to go.
