Hello,

My 86 Integra 1.6 3 door with 110,000 miles will crank but won't start.

I am pullling out my hair on this problem.

The last time it started I drove it for about 100 feet it stopped running. I tryed to start again but it only sputtered and wanted to start but just won't catch. I let rest for a few hours but when I went to start it, the engine would crank normnally but won't start( I could smell fuel)

FYI, The distributor is only 3 months old and new wires, the timing belt 5 months old, check out ok.

This is want I have tryed so far. I going by my Hayes manual since I have misplaced my original Acura Technical manual.

I pulled every spark plug with wire connected tested - no spark. Check wires ohmed OK.

I checked the coil and the ohm's checked out OK! I checked the for spark out of coil wire from distributor cap and there is a healthy pulsing spark.

It is getting fuel.

I hear that the radio condenser if faulty can prevent start, has any hear of this?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Radio condensor? never heard of it. You may want to check your fuses, and all of your grounds.

you said it is getting fuel but sounds to me it could be a fuel pump issue. double check that.

does the 1.6 have and internal coil and ignighter in the distributor cap??? Did you replace the whole assembly dist, or just cap rotor and wires??? are you sure you are gettiing consecutive spark? cause if you are getting fuel that leavs only 1 option. Spark, did you spray carb cleaner @ the TB while cranking??? If you have an internal prim. coil in the cap check the two screw that go from the prime coil to the ignither, can the terminals or the threads that the screws go into loose????? ( can you move the terminal around, u shouyld not be able to ) I have seen loose connections @ the primary coil cause no start on what was a new dist. Did you check for spark at the plug??

im having the same problem, car cranks over but wont start. the priamary resistance on the coil cheks out ok but the secondary is only 4.72 which the hanes manual calls for between 9-12 ohms. could the low ohms cause my car not to start, the igniter looks like a pain in the but to remove if that was bad. very little spark if any coming out of the plugs.

Insufficient spark can most definitely cause a no start problem. It looks like you found your problem annubis11

Very Happy finally! after 4 days from when the screw broke off of my rotor bounced around in the distributor cap, adhearing a new one on there with liquid steel epoxy, probing every connection in the distributor for voltage and trying to decide if i should by a new igniter or coil....i chose wisely...i went for the coil and vvrooommmm. secondary resistance ohms was off 8 ohms thats all it took for the car not to start. thanks for the advice guys the site really helped me out.
