So I have this 1994 Legend L Coupe (Type II/AT, 134k miles, VSS replaced ~4 months ago, battery replaced ~5 months ago) and it has a problem. I was driving it yesterday and my speedo needle dropped once (I was going 40mph, the needle dropped to 20mph, then came right back up), and that was the only time I saw it jump. Then, my tach needle dropped later in the day, just for a split second, and then it came right back up. Then, a third time, both needles dropped to zero then came right back up. I drove the car for a while longer, then I parked it and came back about 20 minutes later. The first two times I tried to start the car, it fired while I was cranking the starter, but as soon as I let off, it died. It did this a second time, and the third time I tried to start it, I cracked the throttle and it kept running (not sure if that had anything to do with it starting; I'm kinda used to driving carbureted cars). Then, while I was driving I felt the motor stumble, like it had a miss, but it only did this for a second. Finally, I went to park it and when I came back about 30 minutes later, it would not run. The engine turns over fine, my starter and battery are definitely working well, and the engine begins to run as I crank the motor, but it doesn't keep running after I let off the starter; it just dies. So whats wrong? I checked all of the fuses under the hood, the fuel pump fuse inside the foot well, and I am totally in the dark right now. Also, I don't think that any lights come on when I turn the key to the "ON" position. That leads me to believe that I have an electrical fault somewhere. I also thought it might have been a crank angle sensor because of the way the tach dropped, but that doesnt explain my speedo. I havent been able to check my fuel pump yet, as I had to drive two hours to Chicago, and two hours back yesterday, and my car is sitting at Menards right now. Please help me out!!
hmmm its something electrical..check the ignition system if it missed somethin may not be firing correctly...as for the tach and the spedometer that just may be a side effect of other electrical problems.....nice too see you have the type II motor
so i got the car home now and i think it might be the ignition switch. to get the windows to work, i have to turn the key back and forth from ACC to ON, and every time i go into ACC or ON, the window will have power for a second, then it will not work anymore. also, i got the lights in the dash to light up once when the key was in the 'ON' position. so maybe my switch is just worn out? i seem to remember reading about this once.
