I have a 94 automatic Integra and yesterday was the 5th time that I have had to get a new radiator for it. I keep busting hoses and radiators. I have had so many problems with the cooling system. This morning when I was driving it, the temperature gauge was at normal (about 1/4 of the way) but when I stopped it would start to climb. As soon as I hit the gas again, it would drop. When I parked it, it leaked a little ani-freeze and I lifted the hood and there was anti-freeze on some stuff. It didnt leak a lot and it stopped right away so I am hoping that it was just overflow since the hoses and stuff just got changed. I didnt get the thermostat changed yet though but I am not sure how that works with the teperature gauge and the gas pedal. Can anyone please tell me what the problem is? I am going to take it back to the mechanic today.

The thermostat is what opens up to release the hot coolent from inside the engine. Its $10 part. Fix It. And the way you said hit heats up when you stop at a light then cools down when start back up makes me think that your fan may not be kickin in when it is supposed to. You might wanna have the colling fan switch replaced its about a $35 part. Also you might have the system flushed if you haven't yet, because there could be a clog causing the coolent to not flow as it should.
I do have a question for you though... when you had the radiators replaced, were they cracked or what was the deal with them?
I got the thermostat replaced, the system flushed and some heater hoses changed. That seems to have fixed the problem. I had them check everything else out and it seems to be working fine.
I dont know what the deal with the radiators is. They have always cracked or just leaked. Isn't odd that I've had to change them so many times? Does that mean there is something wrong with the whole cooling system? I've gone thru too many of the already.

If you've had to put 5 radiators in your car, thats usually not a good sign. However if you had a part like the thermostat that wasnt working correctly, and you drove it like that for a while that could have caused the radiators to break by making them get too hot. That just seemed odd to me.
My question to you now is... everytime you would put a new radiator in would the problem still be there or would it work ok for a while, and then start acting up again. And if it worked ok for a while, how long would it be ok before it would start acting up on you again?
Let me know, and I can give a little more insight to the problem.
When I would put in the fresh radiator the problem went away for a while (anywhere from a few months to a year). BUT when it was replaced, the thermostat and all the other hoses were not. Its not until this past week that I finally got that done. Hopefully this will finally fix the problem.
