I have a 94 automatic integra...Whenever i start my car and attempt to take it out of park it takes a while i can hear a click then it is ok to push the silver button and take it out of park other wise i have to put y key in the shift lock release any suggestions as to what to do or what this might be?

i might regret this post later...for the fact that i may be way wrong...but when you say click it makes me think that there might be a relay for the shift release goin out.

You might see if you can find one and see if that might be a problem.

Again I'm not sure just somethin to try.

I have the same issue with my 90 automatic teg in the winter.

the grease hardens up a little, and I have to bang with my fist, the right lower dash around where the passenger's knee would hit. This releases the shift lock electronically. (it's jammed till I hit it) . there is an electric 'plunger' in there that clicks in and out when you press the brake pedal, to ensure you are on the brake before it lets you shift out of park.

you can remove your centre console (the bottom portion) and do some investigating. That plunger should move freely. Check for dust build-up n stuff that might be preventing it from moving freely in and out.
