I need some help programing the radio code.

My daughter recently bought a 92 Vigor. I was in India at the time and she wrote me about her radio woes and through this site I got a crash course in code issue.

This is where I am @:

1. I found the code on the back of the ash tray [5 digits]
2. I disconnected the battery for a couple of minutes, reconnected it, and entered the code [slowly]- the radio did nothing but beep on the last number.
3. I tried again, and again [3xs] until the radio went into lock out mode.
4. I disconnected the battery again and tried the whole process 3 more times
5. I even read on one forum that you had to enter the code twice 1431214312 and tried that a couple of times with no success.
6. I then pulled the radio out [thanks for your instructions] and got the serial # off the radio and reinstalled the radio.
7. I called the local dealer today [great guy in service] and he gave me the code over the phone- guess what? It was the same code I had and was entering.

Alas he tells me the only time he has ever experienced the problems I am having the radio has to be replaced. I know I can get a desent radio for under $200 bucks but if I am missing something simple I would sure like to ask you guys before my daughter spends the money.

Thanks goodman
