I recently purchased a 1990 integra ls. since then I replaced water pump and distributor and a few smaller things,,,,My problem now is gauges like fuel, rpm, and temp have stopped working.which worked fine before...also fan comes on and stays on when car is parked..I've checked and replaced relays, checked for lose grounds, looked for damaged wires, and followed all test discibed in manual.
Right after I received the car I noticed that the main fused had been blown and replaced with hot wire. My belief is the Idiots hooked the cables up wrong then hot wired, and maybe even then jumped off incorrectly...My question is about the ecm with what I've described, could the ECM be causing my problems? I've been told that this car and 1991 routed pretty much everything through ECM, so that it could send signals and power to whatever and whenever needed. One specialist stated that ECM could be fried and sending signals randomly,,,,,I've checked OBD. When I recieved the car several codes were stored after working on water pump and noticing that things were'nt working I checked again this time NO codes and not even a blink, checked again and got blink that its working, but no codes....I would greatlty appreciate any advice or help I can get!!!!!!!!!
Thanks,
I sorta had a similar problem. When I got my car I didn't check all the wiring, bad idea! Well to make a long story short, the wiring job that was done before I got the car was horrendous and basically fried my computer. My ECU was sending out all kinda of signals. I had to take out the ECU (have someone rebuild it) and rewire almost everything, it sucked. If you can borrow a known good ECU, see how it works. If everything is fine with a known good ECU well you know what your problem is. _________________ If you feel like you're in control, you're not going fast enough. ~ Mario Andretti

I went today and purchased ECU and made sure I could bring back. Well didn't help as I said before I checked all wires for damage, I don't think I mentioned that I had to seperate some wires and rewrap them..now I'm guessing that there may be more damage than I can find in the wiring. Which I'm really not looking forward to. Can you recommend any thing else I should check?( ex: icu, relays I may have missed ...................) anything that will keep me from checking every inch of my wiring..There are several spots I can visually see in the wiring harness(under dash) that look like they have been too hot and have slightly melted. I'm considering buying all of the wiring from another car, and rewiring the whole car as much as I'm dreading it, but it may have to be done I don't know. For 75.00 and me removing I can get all the wiring.not bad but alot more work than I really want to do. Any suggestions?? and does anyone have detailed wiring schematics for this car??? If you had choice between removing all of the wiring from another car, then removing your own, then installing new wires for $75.00 plus your time.... or buying the car that has the good wiring which has no engine or trans. and installing your motor and trans for 500.00 what would you pick ,,,,,me , I dread wiring so much I think the engine switch would be easier and quicker... maybe not let me know what you think
I can't think of anything else to check, but then again when it comes to electrical problems i'm no expert. Personally, I would swap out the motor. But then again I would do just about anything to get out of having to do all that rewiring! _________________ If you feel like you're in control, you're not going fast enough. ~ Mario Andretti

well I did what I didnt want to do and pulled all the wiring harnesses from under dash .. It's seems these idots ran their power wire to amp off of one of the fuse block fuses and was feeding way too much ampage back through all of the wiring hence all the melted wires. once I removed the fuse block I could see better the damamge that was done.. So I replaced some individual wires by splicing and ran new wire harness . things I didnt even know the car had starting working... but now since things are working the E3 light is blinking and reads code 4... and if had it to do over again I would have put my engine in another car rather than do what I did ...wiring is a royal pain to trace and replace....! 6spot
