I was driving my 2004 RSX on the highway when the AC stopped working.
I took it to the dealer for servicing and they found that a "foreign object" had punctured one of the lines where the freon flows in the condenser. I did not believe it so I went to the dealer to check.
When the Service Advisor took me to the car to show me the problem, he mentioned that they have changed a few of the condensers because of the same problem. He kept saying it was an act of God, I say is an act of bad engineering design.
If you look at the condenser from the front of the car, (lower air opening), you can see that it is not protected by a grill like most cars have.
They say this is not covered under warranty so I have to pay $612 dollars.
I consider this to be a defective design and that Acura should fix the problem by installing a grill to protect the condenser (so it does not happen again and again) and they should refund all of those that have paid to get their condenser replaced because of this design flaw.
Please le me know if others have had this problem, so that we can do something about it.
Thanks,

I have had the exact same problem. But mine has dents from rocks and such flying up at the condenser. Mine works well enough not to replace it now, so I am going to get a mesh grille to cover up all the open areas. I have to agree on the design flaw though, my mechanic said many other cars have the same problems.. like some older integras and newer mustangs. Do you know what the foreign object was?? One more thing, my shop quoted me 500$ (canadian) for a new condenser.. maybe you should check around before you whip out that wallet.
I picked up the car today, and the manager told me that "they replace at least 1 condenser per month". He also told me that the new 2005 RSX have the same design (flaw), no grill to protect the condenser.
After looking at the air opening in front of the condenser, I noticed that there are two slots on each side of the plastic bumper, looks like they had planned to put a grill to cover the opening, but didn't.
We did not find the foreign object, so I don't know what it was.
Where are you getting the mesh grill to cover the opening?
