By open header you mean no cat or muffler right?
It will make your engine more efficient (reduced backpressure). Basically, its good for you and bad for the enviroment & your neighbors. I have a problem w/ that kind'a thing! I want my daughter to be able to breath when she gets older. Also, it will actually probably hurt performance just to run it right off the header. There should be at least a 3' flared tube on the end of it. Check out some of the top drag cars. No straight header there.
