Howdy! I just sold my 1968 Ford Mustang fastback and purchased a 2000 Acura 3.2 TL, and would like to know what performance mods ya'll recommend to start out with. I don't want to throw a whole bunch of stuff on it, but I would like to get an extra 15 or 20 HP. I put Flowmasters on my Stang, and really like a good exhaust sound. i know I can't put FLowmasters on the Acura, but what exhaust product sounds the best, in your opinion. Pardon the term, but I don't really like the "rice burner" sound; I've heard that cat-backs sound really nice. I'm also thinking about putting a K&N air filter on it, but i don't think that will get me many horses. Thanks!
The obvious place to start with any 4 banger is with intake and exhaust. Instead of going with a K&N i would go with a full CAI (Cold air intake). AEM produces the best hp gains... i have seen jumps of 8-10 hp w/ an AEM CAI alone, although that engine had a few other mods, but it still is the best. As far as exhaust goes a cat back system is always nice. I don't hear alot about cat back systems, but i hear good things APEX i, and Tiens. I know APEX makes systems for your car, but i am not sure about Tien. Tanabes make a good sound, they are even illegal in some states (noise ordanances)
I have always like comptech, they sound so money! that is ofcourse b/c it costs money!
Yo aclonghorn if you haven't already done so, you will probably want to read this article http://www.all-acura.com/article2.html. It gives a nice basic overview of do's and don'ts.
hey sup, i just wanted to clarify something, the Acura TL has a V6, not a 4-banger
you should get obx or comptech headers and a magnaflow exhaust system (there's no specific system for the TL, but PM me and ill tell you what to get)... comptech is good too, but pretty quiet and does not produce as much gain as magnaflow.
a CAI wouldnt be bad either. or a comptech icebox (more gains, but quieter)
headers should give you around 20hp, magnaflows:a nice improvement in torque and HP, the intake is good for about 5hp.
