My Automatic 1991 Legend has 116,000 miles. The D4 light flashes most journeys now after the speedo falls to zero but then returns to accurate speed reading. And, as the book says if I accelerate I detect unhappiness in the smoothness of pick up. The reason I am here is that my Honda Dealer in days gone by wanted to charge fortunes for a new modulator when the ABS light stayed on. Thankfully a mechanically minded friend sussed the brakes issue which has been recorded here recently. But he isn't so sure about this problem.
Any suggestions will be really valued |

Sheltie,
Sounds like the problem might be with the speed indicator which is mounted in the tranny. I think the earlier G2 Legends had more of an issue with this than the later ones.
The flashing D4 indicates a problem with the tranny or one of its sensors, and I think you will find it to be the speed sensor.
Good luck!

| 95 Type2Cpe really appreciate your reply Thank you. May come back to check more. Is it common that the dealerships aren't as hot on the older models and tend to give duff answers or want to charge a lot for problems that might not really be complicated? Of course might help you to know I am in Scotland, UK where Legends are few and far between but greatly admired! |

| I have a 91 Legend that had the same problem. I replace the speed sensor and have not had a problem since. There is a service bulletin on this problem. If you replace it yourself you need a tamper proof trox tip, the tip has a hole drill in the end . I got mine from the Snap On guy. The sensor is about $90. |
